Internship placement
So I found out where I’m going to be working in London- a weekly paid newspaper called The Kilburn Times.
I don’t know anything about it but I’m really excited. Yay! I have a job! (albeit unpaid)
The goal is now to figure out what a weekly “paid” newspaper means- I’ve never heard that terminology before. Maybe a British thing?
I’ll figure it out. Now I have to go finish assignments for a class and bake holiday cookies for a movie marathon I’m throwing tomorrow.
I was absurdly excited yesterday when I found out the reason the United States hasn’t dropped charges against Director Roman Polanski after his former victim said she wanted them dropped a couple years ago. (There’s newspaper articles all over the Internet on that and other related subjects).
In my fun-reading book, Law 101: Everything you need to know about the American Legal System, there was a good explanation for this involving a crime committed by “Harry” against a woman named “Jill”- “Harry’s behavior, like all crimes, is criminal not because it is a wrong against another person but because it is a wrong against the public good. The state has determined what behavior is wrongful, and the state can punish that behavior even if the victim doesn’t care.”
So the state figures that even if the victim doesn’t care anymore, Polanski’s confessed rape of a 13-year old girl is a wrong against the public good and should be prosecuted still. Interesting.
Yeah, I know, I’m a big nerd reading this stuff for fun. Whatevs, I love it.
